Marcela Cantuária, a divine force from the Global South in her studio, through the lens of Elisa Maciel.

Marcela is a Rio de Janeiro-born artist whose work builds visual narratives focused on recovering stories of resistance, especially from women and popular movements in the Global South. With vibrant colors and an aesthetic that unites historical painting and contemporary visual culture, her production proposes counter-narratives to colonialism and patriarchy, re-signifying symbols erased by official history. Her research articulates politics, spirituality, and activism, expanding beyond painting into murals, textile installations, and ceramic pieces.
